Ready Region Southside believes that strong early childhood programs start with empowered providers. That’s why we’re proud to introduce the Early Education Business Program—a professional learning community designed to help emerging childcare providers strengthen their operations and build long-term sustainability.
Running from April 17 to September 18, this free program is a collaborative effort coordinated by the Center for Early Success and led by experienced business consultant Lauren Smalls and her team. Over the course of eight virtual sessions, participants will explore key business practices that directly influence the stability and quality of early learning environments. Topics include:
- Introduction to Business & Systems Mindset
- Human Resource Management: Recruitment, Retention & Culture
- Financial Management & Benchmarking
- Marketing and Technology Tools
- Business Leadership & Expansion Strategies
Participants will receive valuable tools and resources, including essential texts such as A Great Place to Work and the Program Administration Scale, along with a one-year membership to the Virginia Shared Services Network through Child Care Aware.
In addition, the program offers up to 10 hours of personalized technical assistance, plus ongoing support from the Ready Region Southside team to help participants implement what they’ve learned. With 17 providers already enrolled, this learning community reflects a diverse cross-section of our region’s early childhood leaders—each committed to expanding their impact and ensuring accessible, high-quality care.
This initiative embodies Ready Region Southside’s mission: strengthening the system of individuals and organizations caring for and educating children from birth to five. By supporting business growth in early care and education, we’re not just expanding access—we’re reinforcing early childhood as a cornerstone of our region’s economic future.
Together, we’re creating sustainable outcomes that drive success—for children, families, and communities.
